A Rocky Start is Not a Failure
Deputy Chief Resigns From CIA (washingtonpost.com): "John E. McLaughlin, a 32-year CIA veteran who was acting director for two months this summer until Goss took over, resigned after warning Goss that his top aide, former Capitol Hill staff member Patrick Murray, was treating senior officials disrespectfully and risked widespread resignations, the officials said. Goss hasn't been in this new position for long enough to conclude his failure. WaPo is funny that way. They must know that this is inappropriate, but there is just a drive that they cannot control, almost an affliction. I have an affinity for WaPo, because of the late Kate Graham, Donald's mother. (Read her memoir.) I also, however, have misgivings about its politics. It has a history this way, so this is not a misgiving that I just realized last week. My deep respect of Katherine Graham, and my similar deep dislike of WaPo's slant make for an interesting fan of the paper.
